Hong Kong Airlines will launch a seasonal service to Gold Coast, Australia as it sets sights on reviving its long-haul network.

From January 17, 2025, Hong Kong Airlines will operate four-weekly flights during a five week period until February 15, 2025 - during the Chinese Lunar New Year period - between Hong Kong and Gold Coast using Airbus A330 aircraft.

According to Hong Kong Airlines, the outbound flights will depart Hong Kong every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The return flight will depart Gold Coast every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.

With the Hong Kong-Gold Coast flights, Hong Kong Airlines will provide the first direct air link to Gold Coast from Hong Kong in six years. The route is also expected to connect the Australian city to the Chinese tourist market.

“We expect Gold Coast to become a popular destination for our travellers, not only from Hong Kong but also from our extensive network in Greater China,” said Hong Kong Airlines Chairman Jeff Sun. “They will be able to enjoy the beautiful weather, stunning coastline and exciting activities that Queensland has to offer, further strengthening the cultural, tourism and business ties between these regions."

Gold Coast Airport operator Queensland Airports Limited's CEO Amelia Evans added: “China has always been a critical visitor market for the Gold Coast and Queensland more broadly, so reconnecting to Hong Kong marks a positive step forward in our international recovery journey.”

Following Gold Coast, Sun noted Hong Kong Airlines is considering to launch more long-haul routes, including destinations in North America.

The route launch will mark our first step back into the long-haul market as we are gradually introducing more aircraft to support the expansion of our route network,” Sun said. “This includes actively exploring a return to the North American market, with routes to Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles and Seattle under consideration, to provide passengers with more international and diverse travel options.”
